National Medal of Honor Day

The Medal of Honor is the highest military award for valor in the United States. Created in 1861.  The first Medal of Honor was awarded March 25, 1863, Secritary of War, Edwin Stanton presented the first Medals of Honor to 6 Army members of "Andrews Raiders" for their volunteering and participation during the American Civil War.
